Good Deeds, In Threes – Part 1

Right now I’ve got a lot going on. Most of it stressful and stuff that I cannot discuss publicly. My level of anxiety is very high and I feel like I have an adrenaline rush much of the time. I am hoping that by the end of next week things will be less stressful and I’ll be able to regain my balance. (more…)

Random Acts of Kindness – December 2011

If you’ll remember, I wrote about the Secret Santas who were paying down layaway orders at Kmart. And i challenged you to see what would happen if you performed Random Acts of Kindness.  Here is my list of the Random Acts of Kindness that I can remember performing in December. (more…)

Surprise: The Kindness of a Stranger

Yesterday I stopped at Dollar Tree (Parker, CO) to pick up a few things to help me with organizing my scrapbooking stuff.  When I got to the register, the cashier asked me if I knew about their school supply drive.  I told her that I was unemployed and a teacher on top of that.  She then asked what I taught and where.  When I told her that I was a SPED teacher and worked for, but had been RIF from Douglas County School District, she asked if I had applied in Cherry Creek.  At this point, I was thinking that it was very strange that she was asking so many questions.  She then told me that she had a good friend who worked as a SPED teacher in Cherry Creek.  She offered to get in touch with her friend on my behalf and took my name, phone number and email address.

I finished paying for my items and left the store.  I didn’t think about the cashier at Dollar Tree until she called me this morning.  That’s right, she actually called me.  She told me that she had spoken to her friend and that her friend has some suggestions.  She must have taken notes while she was talking with her friend because she told me that her friend said that ILC or SSN positions were the hardest to fill (and that I should know what that meant).  She continued with suggestions that I’ve either already done or know about.  She wished me luck and told me that she was sure that I would get a position.

I’m still blown away.  A stranger made a phone call on my behalf and called me to tell me what she found out.  There was no reason for her to do this for me other than kindness.  I guess that there is hope for people in this world.
